Just in time for summer, Melbourne’s iconic St Kilda Pier has reopened following a stunning $53 million redevelopment.
Officially unveiled by Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne, the pier’s transformation marks one of the largest pier upgrades in Victoria’s history and reaffirms its place as a must-visit waterfront destination.
The new 450-metre-long pier offers visitors sweeping views of the city skyline and Port Phillip Bay, alongside improved amenities and accessibility features designed to cater to both locals and tourists. With more than 830,000 visitors expected annually, St Kilda Pier is poised to continue its reign as one of Melbourne’s top attractions.
The upgraded pier features a curved walkway, tiered seating and a revamped community space near the beloved St Kilda Pier Kiosk, which will soon welcome a new operator. These modern additions were designed to respect the pier’s heritage elements while enhancing its functionality and visual appeal.
Additional upgrades include:
- A new low landing, improving access for ferry and tour operators
- Extra toilets for visitor convenience
- Reinforced infrastructure with more than 240 steel piles, 6,000 tonnes of concrete and 8,800 timber deck boards, ensuring durability for years to come
With summer in full swing, there’s never been a better time to rediscover St Kilda Pier – a jewel in Melbourne’s crown that’s ready to shine for generations to come.
